No slug this monday/'knee' pain no gain

I normally go to youthtown with the boys every monday - wednesday 7am - 8am for a scrimmage, of course I hadn't been in a while because of all the commitments that come with releasing an album, promo with radio, tv, websites etc, it gets busy but its great. I was surprised to find myself on my feet this morning after the alarm went off, and its that 'Blackberry Carribean' ring that always annoy's me and makes me want to throw the damn thing to the wall when I hear it, anyway, it worked well, no phone abuse this morning lol.

The run started off ok, always lose my way with the ball after not having a game for ages, then come's to the 3rd game, i pull up a pretty decent reverse lay up and what happens..... my knee fail's! I've jarred it before but this is like the first one coming back into ball, it's like my knee's saying, welcome back to 'pain', even with my brace on the support just wasn't enough. Yes I got the lay up but for the amount of times I couldn't run fast enough to stop my opponent from scoring, I'm not sure if It was worth it lol. I guess next time that'll teach me to play it safe and not pull up some fancy shot that cost me the rest of the morning's run. :-P

Last blog was bout trying to get back home from Atlanta Georgia, well... for those who don't know, I'm back home now and straight into cold weather in Auckland City. Always nice to come home to my own bed and personal set up.

Alot has been happening since I got back, I had a few days to recover from the flight back and then I was off to wellington to be a guest performer for the Wellington Production of "Malaga". A musical that I was a part of 10 years ago written and directed by Igelese Ete. Better than I remember too, always good to do something that is your culture, Malaga is a Polynesian based show and its pretty amazing. The next day I was invited to perform my own music at the Pacwell Polynesian Event held at the TSB Arena, for all those who came and supported thanks.

Now being back up in Auckland I've put my pen back to paper and continued to write not only for myself but for another artist named Brooke who I discovered in Christchurch. Won't let you know too much about her but the day I met this girl she pretty much had all the ticks next to her. NOX from Illegal Musik and I have been working away on her album/singles for next year so keep an eye and ear out for her peeps.

Re-scheduled flight... out of my hands, Good or Bad...?

I thought when I got here T Mobile would be the best hotspot to spend my money, when I found out that I had to re-schedule my flight, i had to leave the gate, go and hassle some body from AA who wasn't busy to get my bags and then wait in a cue to re-book the tickets back home! blimmin hoha it was (hoha = niusance). Now i'm sitting at cafe waiting for the producer to pick me up and found that the all day internet pass I bought doesn't work on the other side of the airport! Tell me people... will it get any worse than this, so now I've had to pay for a 'Boing' Internet pass which annoyed me even more just because I thought the name was Stupid... LOL

anyway... I'm over it now, which is why I'm bloggin. So this is very unexpected, what to do... I don't know... maybe cut another song at the studio, that might make me feel better and maybe I'll take this as a productive set back rather than a delayed experience. I guess its all up to me how I see this situation... is it going to be a good day or a bad one, is the cup half empty or half full...

USA trip update

Yo! So if you've been following me on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Bebo and all the rest of it thanks. I've been doing my best to keep you all updated on whats up right now.

Things have definitely been exciting since I got to USA. LA was a good trip, had some choice times meeting new family that I've never met before, enjoyed going to Universal Studios, felt like a kid again, and being back at Hollywood to enjoy the sights and the walk of fame.

ATL is crazy hot, yes the weather but also the talent. So much talent come's out of this place and if you wondering who let me name a few... Keri Hilson, TLC, Dallas Austin, Outkast, B.O.B, Usher, The Dream, Monica and heaps more.

Crazy to think that my 2 minute conversation last year with musician and producer Zac Scott turned into a full on recording trip. He was in Aussie touring with Blackstreet last year and I was opening up for them. If you follow RnB bands like I do you might recognize him from various live performances with Keri Hilson, The Dream, Mary J. Blige, Xscape and heaps more.

The main producer I'm working with goes by the name of Wirlie Morris aka "Optimus Prime". He was a part of Redzone Productions (Tricky Stewart and The Dream) but now he's doing his own thing working with the best in the business. He was also a musician back in the day for alot of RnB Groups like New Edition. Right now he has produced people like Dru Hill, Charlie Wilson, Monica and the list goes on.

For me, however the outcome I'm very thankful and I feel blessed to be here working with these guys.

Alright, will try keep this blog updated as the week progresses. I'm in studio right now so I better get back to it! Chay my peeps...

Alot does happen on K'rd but not until the weekend. Tuesday night i'll be performing with my live band The Levites. Special Guest performers are my good friends P-Money, David Dallas, Pieter T and the beautiful Erakah.

I've also got some other surprises on the night so make sure you come out and party with me and my friends.

Main reason for this night is because I am leaving the same week travelling to Atlanta Georgia, USA to songwrite and record towards my album which will release near the end of the year. I've been offered the unique opportunity to record with producers, songwriters and musicians who work with Artists like Keri Hilson, The Dream, Mary J. Blige, Teddy Riley, Pharrell, Snoop Dogg and many more. As most artists In NZ know its pretty hard making a living in this industry let alone trying to make it over to America so this gig is a "send off" for me aswell AKA "Lets have a party before I cruise over!"

Parachute Festival 2010

Driving down with David Dallas to Parachute Music Festival... Sweet, was an honor to have him join me onstage for both Massive and Mainstage Performance's. Thanks Dude! I really have to give huge props to the Band "The Levites" for all the hard work and effort they put in to taking my songs to the next level. Its always a bit of a risk performing new material that the crowd have never heard before but these guys make it easy to perform, and I think the crowd took it in quite well. Also the Dancers from Wellington "Legacy Crew" for their commitment in making every rehearsal from wellington, you guys were crazy, mad respect for you boys, and of course Allister and Jesse my regular two, It ain't complete without you. BV's, you guys killed it for the short amount of time we had to practice, thanks alot for your time and effort. And of course I have to thank my Manager Richard Beck, Mike Hughes the sound tech and Stella Loa the Band Manager on site. It would be crazy to just receive a whole lot of praise from peeps who seen and witnessed the event and not give back to those who supported me, so this is just one way of saying "Thank you" for the huge weekend that was Parachute Festival 2010.

so to start off, a bit of fun... I was working on a song with lyrics that I had couple years back, and decided to put it to use on this track. Along the way I got bored and began to mess around with the program I use "LOGIC STUDIO". with it I created a bit of Art within the session I had. It took ages but was fun seeing it come to life. and yes its the picture above. those little 'bricks' are one of the vocal files chopped up and pasted, then I just added the color.

Christmas in the Park... Done!

I know, its 12:35am, I just got home and I'm straight on to blogspot updating, but hey... you can't just go to sleep after performing in front of around... 10,000 people, you'd be over 'life' and all its pleasures if you just did that!

Well, it was a huge show, the lights, the stage, the sound, the cast, the audience, and of course santa (for the kids). I had a great time 'entertaining' the people. "Open Happiness" went really well and I'm extra glad that the people from Coca-cola were pleased with that number, because that was the huge campaign they were pushing.

MJ performance was cool, its a hard one pulling off his dance moves, all I can say is I hope the people liked what they saw, we all had a great time doing the MJ Finale and I'm hoping it turns out alright on TV lol.

BLACKSTREET TOUR Sydney and Melbourne

SYDNEY - I got picked by the main promoter and founder of hoopdreamz Marco Selorio, who had waited hours for my delayed flight, poor guy already had alot on his shoulders but still managed to pick me up personally which I'm very greatful for.

Hopped in the car and made our way to The Outback Steak house in Parramatta i think it was. Teddy Riley and his new fiance were there having dinner along with his tour Manager Bull who is definitely someone I wouldn't mess with, especially with that name lol. Had my first introduction to him there which was cool, now... i don't know if its the same for anyone else, but when you first meet, I guess, your "Hero" in the music industry, your kinda lost for words, luckily I pulled my thoughts together quick enough to say "Hi nice to meet you, I'm Vince Harder"... haha, that was funny, anyway, Marco shouted me the grilled salmon, perfect for the evening.

Next day I went to town, picked up some fresh clothes from Adidas Originals at the QVB which I'm very thankful for, thanks to Trisco at such late notice, went down to meet up with Blackstreet at the Hotel and then drove to the Venue for sound check...

Sydney Sport Center Olympic Park was Just the right venue for this gig, we had around 2000 people or more at the show which was great, I did my thing and then it was time for Blackstreet to perform.... 1 word, CRAZY! Being a huge RnB fan and a huge fan of Teddy and Blackstreet, these guys set the record straight, they performed like they were still 20 lol, and sang like there was no tomorrow. The new members Quinn and J Styles were 'tight', vocally they had all the licks and that crazy Gospel tone and feel in their voice. And of course, Teddy was pretty much the man workin it on the Voice Box and Vocoder. The rest is History...

I could blog more on this show and the Melbourne show too but I just have to say that if you missed out, make sure you don't next time, coz these guys are the real deal. They sang played and performed RnB and New Jack Swing music at its finest.

Want to make a huge shout out to the ones that I met on this tour and everyone else I was hanging with...

Statement from Management.

It is today announced that Vince Harder and Dirty Records have mutually agreed to part company. The split is entirely amicable and both parties wish each other the very best for their future endeavours. Vince will continue recording tracks for his debut album to be released in 2010, and is now actively seeking a new home for this release.

During his tenure with Dirty Vince Harder released the singles "Strobelight" and "Lyrical Love" and featured on the number one hit "Everything" with P-Money.

Vince will appear on the forthcoming P-Money album in 2010 and is currently featured on the single "Love Alone". The two will continue to collaborate with songwriting and live performances.

hey guys, thought i'd post up something real quick regarding the neyo gig.

So the deal with that was it was supposed to happen this year november and my understanding is that the promoter's have decided to put it back to another date next year. Not sure when, and it's not guaranteed that I have the opening slot... but as soon as i know i will be posting it up. Just remember peeps, I'm only the artist opening for neyo and not the organizer lol so it's completely out of my hands when it comes to questions like "When is neyo coming? I thought tickets were on sale" etc, wish i could just call the brother up and say "yo, you got huge fans in NZ and AUS, hurry up and get yo ass over here" lol, but it ain't like that, have never met him, but am keen to.

hope this gives you a lil more insight into the matter from me, I guess we all just have to wait for now,but... know that you can enjoy the rest of the talent coming to our shores this year like....

My boy P-Money and I have been having success with the hit single "Everything", just wanted to post something up myself to say how exciting this is. Edith Bowman, radio host for Radio 1 on the BBC Network has made our track the Record of the Week!

What i know about Edith, she's been on the BBC Network since 2003 and has interviewed huge stars like Robbie Williams, U2, Kylie Minogue and the list goes on...

This thursday she'll be interview P-Money Live on air 12:30 GMT so make sure you check out the live stream to hear all about that if your in NZ or AUS.

"Everything" is making moves in the UK, i think last week we were at #10 on the Cool Cut's charts in the UK, and now is making progress, today i found out its at #8 which is awesome! Big exciting for all involved i.e. Dirty Records, 3 Beat records, P-Money, myself, Sam Hansen AKA PNC and Evan Short.

More on the subject of Music, i've been writing up a storm lately to alot of P-Money Music so keep watching this space for more info on that coming soon. Its been stirring alot of good within me writing to his music, the simplicity and "organic" vinyl cuts he's been fusing together with today's dance genre has been like a breath of fresh air for me, especially when in NZ you get spoilt with a whole lot of RnB/Pop/Hip Hop Music.

I know its early days but from the outset, I just want to say that i'm greatful for all thats happening, its been a bit of a process but you go through that and I'm definitely starting to see the fruits of our labour. Music can be here one day and gone the next so i'd like to make special mention and a huge thank you to my family, Savannah, Cadence and Yunique for being a huge support in this, none of this would be possible without you.

Boys II Men, Commisioned, Toni Tony Tone, KC and Jo Jo, Tevin Campbell... rnb dudes i loved listening to. those day's were fun for me, listening to rnb back then wasn't so painful "lyrically" used to love singing along like "Although we've come to the end of the road, still i can't let go, its so natural...." and "Do you believe in love, and the promise that it gives, i wanna love you for life... ", reading those lyrics you think, man thats a strong message these dudes put out to one girl, but that's exactly what RnB music did for people, i reckon for those of you who were big fans of the 90's, you could almost say those day's of romance were passionate... My eldest brother used to use me and my other brother as an excuse to take us out to the ice skating rink just so he could see his girl friend from another school, Me and my brother would be there every weekend, skating, getting better and better, while my other eldest brother would be giving passionate kisses to his girl haha, funny thing was, used to change nearly every week LOL.

re-visiting old songs

I've been thinking heaps lately about doing a cover song, a classic song, definitely from an artist that truly inspired me to sing. Alot have come to mind and these are the artists i'm thinkin of:

The Bee Gees, The Carpenters, Al Green, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder.

My main purpose for re-visiting a song from one of these artists is to show appreciation of how much they shaped my vocal and songwriting ability. And, hopefully i do the song justice, in my own interpretation without damaging the reputation of the song. Alot of artists do this, but I thought it would be good for you all to know personally why I am. And just so you don't think "The Label" put me on to doing it lol.

I'm very close to starting my album so will be updating you shortly of all the good stuff happening in the studio!

Music month coming to an end

Well, to be honest, music month for me has been pretty slow in NZ. I honestly thought that there would be gig's left right and center for me but i guess this ugly word "recession" has really hit people on the forehead. All i can say is WAKE UP PEOPLE, we all need music, you should've be throwin that paper around this month at us performers to entertain, inspire, encourage and enliven. .. hmm maybe it's just me that didn't get work this month, although i did talk to a few others at the pacific music awards last saturday and they've said the same "this years music month has been the quietest for us" quote's Duane from Oyster Entertainment. Normally Sky City would be investing around 100K into entertainment, so this year Duane took Jamoa Jam on tour.

I guess being ahead of the game would have been the way to go, booking gig's in advance from say... march for music month and then it wouldn't be so quiet, I'm just happy that me and the dirty crew had them aussie gig's available, otherwise it would have been really dead for me lol.

To sum up what I have done for this month I'll be posting a video blog real soon for may so keep watching out for more blog's to come.

Hey all, well lots has happened. in the last couple of months already i've shared the stage with some pretty big names which has been crazy and a huge privilege. Name's like Sam Sparro, Fat Boy Slim, Metro Station, The Veronica's, The Pot Bellyz and from NZ, PNC, David Dallas, Tiki Tane, Holly Smith, State of Mind and of course P-Money. Huge shout out to my label "Dirty" for hookin it up. Things are looking pretty positive. In sydney at the mo, recording with my mate adam riley, who produced nearly every pop star come out of aussie, been demo'in some country songs for him, and while i'm singing them i'm thinkin... man i could easily do this in the states... haha, reminds me heaps of my upbringin, mum playing country on the piano singing "she wears my ring... she wears my ring" old school days, now'a day's you got country stars like keith urban, faith hill, dixie chicks and carrie underwood doing their thing a lil more pop and its like "wow" i actually enjoy listening to their stuff... I guess if all goes down under with the pop/rnb stuff, you may wanna start checkin out the country pop charts in a couple of years... lol :-)

Strobe Light Lyrics

Strobe Light Definition...

I wrote this song because I love dancing, been doing it since i was 13 years old, my sister is an old school Janet Jackson freak and she used to get me to dance with her like a duo thing... anyway

Dance is a way of 'escape' for me, having a dance jam with friends is always a good way to get my energy out, you know... get rid of tension and just have a good time.

LYRICS

When writing Strobe Light i had this imaginary thought of being at an office job doing the 9 - 5, having the boss ram orders in my face, and all while thats happening, in my mind I'm thinking " I just wanna get out of here dance, let loose" I.E. 'works creating tension, the 'man' (boss) is causing friction, to my minds addiction (dancing or choreographing dance moves in my head) ...'

and then because I can't elp myself anymore from all the tension, orders and stress at work 'my mannerism's like a Strobe Light' I automatically stat to dance and I donm't care what is happening at work around me or who's watching

2nd verse is basically my imaginary self, having already left work... I find an imaginary dance party and see the sickest dancers doing amazing routines, tricks, acrobatics and they pretty much start to excite and inspire me etc and so thats when i sing "hold up you've brought new fire in my eye's, changing up the dance scene, your moving to fast so just breathe... You know that it's gon' get hot in here so just do me a favour and Strobe Light"

That last part is pretty much self explanatory.

I hope that explains the lyric content of Strobe Light. I would of loved to have done a music video for it but time ran out and it was a busy time of the year, so onward and upward, gotta keep moving forward with the next brand new single.....

Hey all, Happy New year, 09 is gonna be big for all that dare to dream... for me, lots to do in terms of music, and even more with family.

Whats up everyone! Well well well, fancy you reading this blog-o-mine! I'm glad you came thru, because... this is the very first of many blog's i'll be posting up every now and then just to inform you of how I am, what i'm up to, where i'm heading etc as a Music Artist.

Alot has happened this Year 2008, been an extremely intense year but rewarding... heres a few things that happened for me:

- Travelled to Dubai to perform at the Dubai Shopping Festival, and "scene" the sights, rode a camel, dined in the best restaurants, quad bike riding in the desert, bbq in the desert, Safari ride in the desert, visited a 5 Star luxury hotel in the desert... aah man, wish that could have lasted for ever.

- Aute ma Fagaloa, a stage show i performed in for 2 weeks at the Auckland university Theatre, interesting show :-) Big ups to all those that were in the show... miss you guys

- Auditioned for the Broadway show "Jersey Boy's" Australia, Melbourne, got the part, but had to let it go to commit to my career as an artist... a hard decision, but a path well worth choosing! *fingers crossed lol*

- Gospel performance at CCC Balmain Sydney! Off the hook, Angus, the keyboardist... you're a Monster man!

- Signed to Dirty as their first RnB/pop artist! Big ups to P-Money for that, and also my mate B-side for the connection!

- Sung the Australian National Anthem for the Australia VS New Zealand Netball game at the Vector Arena

- Organized and Ran "Groove" the dance heat event created by Hoopdreamz in Australia, which went successfully well, considering on the same night i had to do the National anthem as well LOL! rush rush rush...

- Recorded and released "Everything" the Pmoney single which went #1 in NZ for 3 weeks, and featured on the Video too

- Recorded and released my New Single "Strobe Light", my first debut single EVER!

- Toured with Pmoney to the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne to promote "Everything" the single

- Performed at "Battlegroundz Supremacy" The States Sport Center, Sydney Olympic Park, The Big Final for "Groove" 2008! Big ups to my west boys SWEET AND SOUR for taking it out!

- Performed on the good morning show last friday for their final christmas special, on Channel 1, big luv to Bella Kalolo and Allister!

And now.... Posting my first blog to you, the 1 and only reader looking at this blog right now thinking, what a full on year I've had...

You could say i've got my finger in a lot of pies, and you know what... thats ok... because i'm having a lot of fun doing this, and I'm happy to be doing what I do, most people would dream of being in the position I'm in, all I can say is, hard work and perseverance is the key in the natural, trust in God for your dreams to be fulfilled is the key to my whole life! A lot of people have their reasons for doing music, I can honestly say that the man upstairs and my family are my motivation, when all the hype is gone... they're the only thing thats real to me.

So... whenever theirs something exciting, not so exciting, creative, dull or scary happening... know that you'll be able to view it all first hand on this blog. Well done for reading to the end of the page... I hope you come back
